Fresno – This week, the U.S. House of Representatives will vote on H.Res. 296 which affirms the United States’ recognition of the Armenian Genocide. State Senator Andreas Borgeas (R-Fresno) issued the following statement of support for the resolution:
"I am a staunch supporter of the House’s efforts to finally give formal recognition to the Armenian Genocide, and appreciate the bipartisan efforts behind this resolution. While our community has achieved success recognizing the Armenian Genocide at the California state level, federal recognition to date has proven elusive. As a representative of a significant Armenian community with deep ties through family and faith, this hits close to home."
According to the Armenian Museum of Fresno, California’s Central Valley is home to an estimated 100,000 Armenian Americans with 45,000 residing in Fresno County. Senator Borgeas is also a member of the Select Committee on Armenia & Artsakh Mutual Trade, Art & Cultural Exchange.
