Senator Borgeas' Statement on COVID-19 Disruptions at California Capitol

SACRAMENTO – Senator Andreas Borgeas (R-Fresno) issued the following statement on the recent positive COVID-19 test of a member of the Senate:

“Since the onset of this pandemic, I have been diligent about observing and advocating for health protocols in our community and during Senate proceedings at the State Capitol,” said Senator Borgeas. “Unfortunately, certain Senators will not be participating in today’s floor votes. Tomorrow and thereafter, those Senators will be participating and voting off-site in personal residences using electronic means until the end of session in order to protect the health and safety of all Senators and staff.

“I took a test on Tuesday morning and received the negative result yesterday,” added Senator Borgeas. “I would encourage all Senators who have not yet been tested to get one because an incomplete picture of potential exposure remains. Both Democrats and Republicans have potentially been exposed to the virus.

“Lastly, in the most technologically advanced state in the nation, California leaders should be able to provide alternative means for the Legislature to vote remotely and conduct the people’s business when health is substantially at risk,” said Borgeas. “These are extraordinary times, and we will continue to work through these circumstances to advocate on behalf of all Californians.”
