FRESNO, Calif. – Senator Andreas Borgeas (R-Fresno) provided the following statement on Governor Gavin Newson’s appointment of Matt Navo to the State Board of Education.
“In December 2018, Governor Gavin Newsom visited the Central Valley and met with leaders in the heart of Downtown Fresno. We spoke collectively with one voice about the importance of increasing valley representation at the statewide level. Today, Governor Newsom demonstrated that he was listening, and took a positive step towards increasing valley representation,” said Senator Borgeas. “Matt Navo is a testament of the wide-ranging talent that exists in our region.”
Navo has served as Director of Systems Transformation at the Center for Prevention and Early Intervention for WestED since 2018. He has held multiple positions at the Sanger Unified School District from 1999 to 2018, including, superintendent, area administrator and director of pupil services and special education.
Navo served as adjunct faculty at California State University, Fresno from 2010 to 2013. He earned a Master of Arts degree in special education from California State University, Fresno. This position requires Senate confirmation.
