Today, Senator Andreas Borgeas (R-Fresno) announced his Senate Bill 603 was approved by the Senate Appropriations Committee. The amended bill passed on a 6-0 vote.
SB 603, a common sense measure, reinstates a widely used informal rate-case process which benefits small-rural telephone companies and codifies the Public Utilities Commission’s own regulations surrounding rate-case approval timelines.
“SB 603 will restore a more efficient, cost effective and timely process for small telephone companies when presenting to the Public Utilities Commission, ultimately keeping costs low for rural landline telephone customers,” said Senator Borgeas.
Rural residents and businesses have a critical need for telephone and internet service and rely on small companies to serve remote areas.
SB 603 received unanimous support in Senate Energy, Utilities and Communications Committee. The bill will now head to the Senate Floor for a vote.
