Sacramento– California State Senator Andreas Borgeas (R-Fresno) will be available for media immediately following Governor Gavin Newsom’s State of the State Address on Wednesday, February 19th in Sacramento at the State Capitol.
“We anticipate the Governor will highlight job creation and economic prosperity in California,” said Senator Borgeas. “However, I am puzzled by the Governor’s support of the implementation of AB 5 when it has negative implications for California’s economy. Hundreds of thousands of jobs are endangered due to AB 5 and threaten the economic prosperity of the Central Valley.”
“We must marshal resources to combat this terrible law, which will endanger the freelance economy by legally presuming everyone must be an employee thus disallowing contractors and freelancers from working independently,” added Senator Borgeas.
Nearly two million freelancers including, but not limited to, truckers, app-based drivers, healthcare professionals, coaches, photographers, musicians, security guards, interpreters, tax preparers, insurance adjusters, journalists, tutors, pharmacists, franchisors, newspaper carriers, stylists, physical therapists, bartenders, nutritionists, and an endless list of others are impacted by AB 5.
Senator Borgeas is holding a community meeting on February 27th at Clovis Community College to address AB 5.
